Yes, Piešt’any is Slovakia’s number one spa destination – the experiencing of which should waylay you a good half day, or longer if you really dig being pampered. But there is a whole lot more to the Piešt’any region.  The town sits in a wide river valley (the mighty Váh, part of which has been dammed into one of the country’s largest reservoirs and has a famous country music festival on its banks each year). Above it (and an easy hike from central Piešt’any) are the high forested ridges of the Považský Inovec hills (an arm of the Malé Karpaty/Smal Carpathians) which rise up above Hlohovec and continue until Beckov Castle (the gateway to our Places to Go/Western Slovakia/The North-Western Part) and beyond. We include the western side of these hills, which boast most of  Považský Inovec’s interesting sights, right here. Head further east and you’re into our Places to Go/Western Slovakia/The South-eastern Part. The highlight of the hill range for us? Tematín Castle (just check our post on it!)
